About
The Imam Hussain Blood Drive is inspired by the teachings of Islam, which honors human life, and guides Muslims to do everything to respect and preserve it.
“And whoever saves the life of one person, it is as if he has saved the whole of humankind.” – Holy Quran, Surah Al-Maidah (5:32)
The motivation to save a life especially during the month of Islamic month of Muharram is intensified by the Tragedy of Karbala; where the greatest sacrifice took place on the desert plains where Imam Hussain, his family and companions sacrificed their life to save Islam from oppressive rule. Learn more about Who is Hussain.
The Imam Hussain Blood Drive started in 2015 at Masjid Rasool in Simi Valley by a group of dedicated volunteers from Imamia Medics of Southern California. Over the years, as they grew their program, Imamia Medics partnered with the Shia Muslim Council to expand the Blood Drive to the Inland Empire and Orange County. Every year, more than 150 people donate blood in the name of Imam Hussain and their selfless donation helps save over 400 lives.
The partnership between IMI and SMC aims to increase the number of regular blood donors from Muslim communities through the idea of people giving back or saving a life.
We are looking to expand into other locations. If your center is interested in taking part in the Imam Hussain Blood Drive, please send your interest inquiry to donate@imamhussainblooddrive.org.
